Reflecting on Learning

I have been working with children since I was 16 years old. I have seen many children grow up in the past 16 years. My hope as an Early Childhood Educator is that each child gets the opportunity to feel accepted in their learning environment. Every child is different and deserves to be treated with respect, despite what their differences may be. I hope to be able to continue to provide a fair and anti-bias classroom for children, to learn, grow and play.

"If we are to teach real peace in this world, and if we are to carry on a real war against war, we shall have to begin with the children." - Mohandas Gandhi, political and spiritual leader in India

Thank you to all of my classmates and colleagues for helping me along this journey to further my knowledge of creating the best possible learning environment for children.

  1. Hello April!

Thanks for sharing the link about famous quotes! Awesome! Yes, children and their families deserve to be treated equal just as their peers. No child should ever feel that they were not given an opportunity because of their culture, family structure, and or religion. Children are children and are innocent of the many biases that are floating in their space. As educators, we are the ones that need to educate children and protect children from stereotyping other children and families. What we do makes the difference in each child's life! One of my passions is to be a strong advocate for children and families and to create environments that support differences in others.

I would like to also thank you for your expertise that you have brought to our class and wish you the best in your future.

  2. We must ensure that our learning environments promote fairness for all children. To promote acceptance for all is to include anti-bias learning materials, encourage children’s discussions about differences, and ensuring all children’s cultures are represented in the learning environment.

    Thanks for sharing!
