What I've Learned about ECE Internationally

Three Consequences of learning about the international childhood field:
·         The need for Pre-schools is different in other areas of the world due to mothers staying home until children reach Kindergarten age.
·         Curriculum changes based on what academic areas are the most important.
·         Religion plays a key part in not only Pre-schools, but primary school as well.

One goal for international awareness of issues and trends in Early Childhood Education:

·         I think that an “Issues and Trends in Early Childhood Education” course should be mandatory in Early Childhood Bachelor’s programs throughout the world. Knowing what is current in the field should apply not only to Master’s students, but anyone seeking a degree in Early Childhood.

  1. Hi April, Thanks for your post! Curriculum changes are such a bittersweet thing. While it is important to stay current on issues and trends, and the curriculum, it is frustrating to constantly have to be changing based on what the most popular trend is. When those things are positive changes, it is easier to enforce and change than when they are changes that seem to have no real affect on your personal classroom. I guess that is why it is important for EC professionals to speak up about what is going on specifically in their community.

  2. Hello April! I totally agree with your consequences! Many children stay home with moms because it's what generations before them have done in previous years! Religion is a huge arena that I'm glad you touched base with as it really is an important aspect of many things including education in other countries! I think your consequences and goal were well thought through April! Great post!😀

  3. April,

I most definitely agree that this course need to offered in every level of early childhood education. There is so much to learn, explore and discover. I think what I enjoyed most is beginning the course with one perception and ending with a vast amount of knowledge for colleagues, research and the blogs. Thank you for all the input you gave on the blogs and discussion boards!
