Sharing Web Resources

The website that I have been researching is The National Association for the Education of Young Children. The section of the website that interests me the most is the section regarding professional development opportunities. In this section there is a list of training opportunities, annual conference information and other accreditation and training opportunities. This information is relevant to me as I am constantly looking for ways to better my teaching skills and stay abreast of current issues in Early Childhood Education.

A portion of the website is entitled, Effective Advocacy Resources. There is information pertaining to how members of the community can support the field of ECE through voting and lobbying. Politics play a large part in how child care centers are funded and how they are regulated. Citizens should understand that they have the ability to change policies through being an active member of society.

A new insight that I gained through my website research is how much information can be obtained through this website. I have spent hours scrolling through the NAEYC website and each time I see something that I did not see before.

  1. April,

Thank you for the informative post about NAEYC! They are such a great resource for early childhood educators, and "citizens" as well! I like what you had to say about how the website shows that members of the community can help out by voting and lobbying. It is so great that there is SO much information and links on one website, my only concern is that is there too much information? It is great when there is a "search" option on a specific website, but look at how many hours you spent on the website and still haven't seen everything. And you know what you are doing and what you are looking for. How do we get important information across to people who may not know what they are looking for? I would like to be able to send the parents that I work with/for to the NAEYC website but I fear they will get lost in all the options. Other than those concerns, I know that NAEYC has amazing intentions and a wealth of knowledge! Thanks for posting what you found!

  2. Hi April,

I am an international member of the NAEYC and like you I find it to be most informative and you can spend hours on that website and learn so much. The information I gather form them I often create a newsletter based on specific issues that I identify in my area of work and the people I work with and share with them. If I miss a month in not sending out the newsletter, I am called or emailed asking what has delayed the posting.

    Thanks for sharing
    Debbie-Ann
