Early Childhood Organization

The organization I chose to research is The National Association for the Education of Young Children www.naeyc.org

NAEC’s mission statement is: NAEYC promotes high-quality early learning for all children, birth through age 8, by connecting practice, policy, and research. We advance a diverse, dynamic early childhood profession and support all who care for, educate, and work on behalf of young children. (www.naeyc.org)

On the NAEYC website there is a place marked News and Highlights, here you can access the NAEYC blog where professionals write articles for educators and families to read. I chose to read a blog article titled “Professionalizing the Early Childhood Field” http://www.naeyc.org/blogs/gclarke/2015/04/professionalizing-early-childhood-field

This article interested me immediately. Over the years the Early Childhood Field has worked tirelessly to prove its importance and professionalism. In order to show that we are more than “Glorified Baby-Sitters”, Early Childhood professionals need to ensure that they are becoming and remaining educated in the field. This article discusses the importance of this issue along with barriers that Early Childhood
Professionals may face in meeting their educational goals.

I would recommend this blog for others to follows.

Update on ECE Professional Contact

I received an email this week from the organization that I contacted on in order to get in touch with an ECE professional overseas. The organization put me in touch with a professional in Pakistan. I contacted the professional by email myself, but have not heard anything back so far.

Hope everyone else is having good luck in this assignment!

  1. April,

Great website to research. NAEYC shares some great research based information. When I am facilitating trainings, I always mention NAEYC information. Are you a member of NAEYC?

I am glad you were able to receive an email from an organization. I haven't had any luck yet.

  2. Hello April! I am elated to know that I may just receive a word back from someone in another country, because as of yet......I HAVE NOT!!! :( I sent out 6 emails and have not heard a word from either of them!! Any who, I really appreciate your article about 'glorified babysitters' because unfortunately that's what many people thin we are. This is one of the reasons that I AM staying educated in the field because i know that being educated makes ALL of the difference!! Thanks for sharing!! By the way I chose NAEYC as my organization as well!! :)

  3. April,
The article you chose to research sounds incredibly interesting, I think I will check it out! Especially as our "Board" at the center that I work at, made up of parents of some of the children who attend our center, decided that a good way to help the budget was to not give any of the staff raises this year. I was more hurt by this decision than I originally thought I would be. I mean, here we are caring for their children and I can't even get a .25cent raise? I wonder what would happen if they did not get a raise at their company. It just made me feel as though they did not consider me a professional. Sorry, that is my rant for the evening! But I do think you chose a great website to research and your first article sounds very interesting.

  4. Dear April,

I am an international member of the NAEYC!!! I so enjoy receiving the Young Child and Teaching Young Children magazines; as well a benefit of being an international member is I receive interesting and up to date texts about children and how to work with them. This is indeed an excellent choice and you will enjoy their newsletters.

As well I hope you receive feedback from your international contact, I have not been successful in that area at all.

    Thanks for sharing
