Three ideals from the NAEYC Code of Conduct
Statement that really stand out to me are:
I-1.3—To
recognize and respect the unique qualities, abilities, and potential of each
child.
I-1.8—To
support the right of each child to play and learn in an inclusive environment
that meets the needs of children with and without disabilities.
I-1.10—To
ensure that each child’s culture, language, ethnicity, and family structure are
recognized and valued in the program.
Each of these
ideals protects a child’s right to be different and still be included in an
early childhood program. Insuring that children are being treated as
individuals will teach them that they are all valuable despite their
differences.

NACEYC Code of Conduct shared and show me how serious of a job education is. We have to view and understand the nature of this profession. It was interesting to see it all in print and how the law views it. It is so important to know what you need to know and do to work with people of different backgrounds.
ReplyDeleteEvery child deserves an inclusive quality early childhood program and teachers that are passionate about what they do. Those "ah-ha" moments are the best feeling ever when a child understands a new concept. Every early childhood educator should know and understand these code of ethics.
ReplyDeleteI think you're completely correct, every child deserves to be protected and to be the individual they are. Each of our differences make the world a better place. We as educator need to protect each child in which me teach, giving them the confidence to become what ever they want!
ReplyDeleteI feel that Ideal 1.3 encompasses so many other ideals throughout the code of ethics. In order to respect each child's unique qualities, abilities, and potential, we as educators need to recognize where they came from, and why they are the way they are. In order to do this, teachers need to respect their culture and language as well as their interests and aspirations. Teachers need to respect their right to learn through play. That means that the environment needs to be set up in order to meet their individual needs and interests.
ReplyDeleteWhat I really enjoyed reading the most about your post is that you gave importance to the culture and diversity of each and every student. Schools now, though states try so hard to make everyone conform, are full of diversity. If one is not willing to work with such population, they will struggle with earning students' respect. Therefore, the importance of us as educators to respect diversity play a big part in overall success.
ReplyDeleteYou have been a very informative and passionate leader. I have followed you and your discussions and blogs and it has been an extreme pleasure to hear you heart for children and their well being in all aspects of their development. I wish you much success in all your classes and in life. Enjoy the journey as we see this through together. See you at Graduation...
